If the history of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Holocaust
taught us anything, they taught us that people of
goodwill must face unpleasant truths and stand against
anti-Semitism and other forms of virulent racism and
bigotry, wherever they appear.
It is incumbent upon us to know the lessons of history.
We cannot grow complacent…comforted by the passing of
time or the security of distance.
The National Holocaust Endowment, formerly the Six
Million Lights Education Fund, is providing funding for
college-level Holocaust education programs at
universities and colleges.
Our mission is to teach today's youth to protect the
defining doctrine of America that all men and women of all
races and religions are treated equally.
The
Holocaust is not only about the past, it is about the
current enflamed world where prejudice and radicalism is
threatening to destroy freedom loving people.
In our time, intolerance still flourishes, human rights
are too often denied, and genocide is met with
ineffective opposition.
We must recognize the moral imperative of teaching young
people about this defining moment of the Holocaust and
the central importance of passing on to future
generations a sense of responsibility to the human
community.
Our goal is to fund Holocaust education courses at all
the universities and colleges in the State of Nebraska. Currently the
endowment is funding Holocaust education courses at the
following Universities:
University
of Nebraska
at Omaha,
University
of Nebraska
at Lincoln,
Creighton
University
Omaha Nebraska,
University
of Nebraska
at Kearney
Wayne State College
With your support we will make an important difference
in the lives of our future leaders as they gain greater
understanding of the lingering and serious impact of the
Holocaust. Together we can work to ensure a future
filled with the promise of humanity.
The National Holocaust endowment Fund is a non-profit
entity and a component of the Jewish Federation of
Omaha Foundation and in partnership with the Omaha
Community Foundation
