NEWS & RIDES

Sunday Aug. 17th. Ride:    BBQ at "Fort Pierce Inlet State Park"   More pictures

The summer doldrums don't stand a chance against the pronouncement of "PICNIC RIDE" to the Six Point Riders so 24 of them showed up to partake. The ride took us from the Turnpike over several bridges to Port St. Lucie, then through A-1-A and onto Fort Pierce. Even Tropical Storm Fay barreling up from Cuba was forced to linger there for a while and not interfere with our riding and gastronomic pursuits. And then there was the food; hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken, strip steak, kosher steak, even beef jerky and every type of condiment and drinks, of course. Well, you can't just let them ride and eat because then they just want to sleep, so before the main event we held an official meeting. Ideas of dreams unfulfilled, where we stand currently, and ever broadening new horizons, proliferated. Talking done; now onto the food and refreshments. The charcoal was skillfully stoked by Shimon and Reuben. The meat was handled by Pini and Isac. Condiments were continuously passed by Tova, Monique, Maggie and Tzila. Entertainment was provided by Shlomo's BMW which he backed under the tent and squeezed until it belched out Israeli music continuous. Yes, we even had professional dancers on the ground, in the sand, then on tabletops and even in the water. Now how sweet is that?
The heat of the day guided us into the ocean inlet just as the tide was receding. Susan was nearly swept away by the 20 mph current, while Reut was successfully fighting to keep her bikini top on. Characteristically, Harry was seen trying to swim against the tide, and I entertained just by changing into my bathing suit and waddling around the shallows. Eddy was coaxed into eating a hot pepper, forsaking all the issues, and Danny and Mati just floated along while Don and his new Squeeze strolled in the sand.
At departure time, staying true to our tradition we gave the unending supply of unconsumed food to our picnicking neighbors on both sides of our tent. "Our cup runeth over" except for a good cup of coffee which the GPS heralded as being attainable 583 miles away at the nearest Dunkin Donuts. A small rain shower ushered us homeward and a great day was had by all.            George Foti
